Show Notes

We have a most interesting and insightful show today. Our uniquely special guest is Ann Sidney, Miss World 1964. Her new book, ‘Surviving Miss World’ is a searingly honest account of how winning the 1964 Miss World Beauty Pageant radically altered the scope of her life.

Born to a working-class family in England, at barely 20, Ann Sidney’s overnight fame reveals a life during the ‘swinging sixties’ few of us could ever dream of. Her win led Bob Hope to invite Ann to join his USO tour, entertaining ‘our troops’ by traveling to Korea, Guam, the Philippines, and Vietnam (during the war).

In our time together today Ann Sidney and I will discuss the impact of winning Miss World in a time when winning a Worldwide Beauty Pageant was a very, very big deal. In addition to life in the 60’s, we will discuss gender roles in that time period compared to what we believe today. Our conversation is fun and enlightening.

With that, let’s bring Ann on the show.
