What is your Next Chapter?

May 31, 2017

My guest today is someone I’ve been trying to get on the show for months but we just couldn’t schedule it. Finally, we were able to connect today. Her name is Shauna Sopko. Shauna is a mid-thirties single mother of 2 children… who has discovered how to live a full life of adventure and service, while, at the same time, maintaining her primary job- which being a great mom.

With 20 years of sobriety, Shauna works 45 hrs a week in a treatment facility, as well as owning a massage therapy and healing business. Motherhood is so important to her that she gave up a lucrative modeling career just to focus on being the mom her kids needed.

I’ve watched Shauna from afar for a few years. As you will discover, she is quite simply an amazing woman.

Shauna’s life story is so compelling. She has successfully overcome tragedy, death, and abuse… and yet she has discovered how to stay happy and compassionate, while pursuing her passion for foreign travel and adventure.

For that reason I am titling this show: Unstoppable-One Woman’s Determined Journey from Dregs to Dreams.

Today I’m feeling a need to talk about a subject that haunts just about all of us: Fear and Self-Doubt. Successful real estate mogul Sanford Coggins once told us on this podcast that, in his experience, “self-doubt” is the primary roadblock to achieving your dreams in life. Fear is mostly certainly holds its own as the other roadblock.

I think we learn far too early that failure is tragic, embarrassing, and proof that you are “Less Than.” Which is simply untrue. Neil Gaimen in his famous college graduation speech encourage the graduating seniors to “make mistakes, make lots of mistakes, make HUGE mistakes.”

That’s because mistakes are a marvelous tool that can lead you to eventual success. First of all, if you make a mistake, it means YOU TRIED! You were “in the game.” That alone is worthy. And, in addition, there are all the things you learn along the way.

But often, instead of learning helpful tools we learn to be afraid and doubt our ability. Therein lies the tragedy.

NOTE: Some minor sound distortion in the beginning.

Our topic today is titled, “A Life Well Lived.” This show will offer most interesting ideas on living boldly from the heart.

Today I’m visiting with Suzanne Barber. Suzanne Barber is a practicing Certified Holistic Nutritionist, an artist, teacher and creator of extremely popular gift cards offered at the Montage Resort in Laguna Beach, CA. But I must admit, I am mostly attracted to Suzanne because she is a fearless adventurer.

Suzanne has recently put together Picture Book of serenity and excitement. Yes, both fit together. The book has two titles: For guests at the Montage Resort it is titled A Life Well Lived and for the mass audience she has titled it A Vibrant Life.

My favorite Suzanne Barber quote is, “Living straight from the heart may not be the safest way, but it is my way.”

My very special guest today is Heather Criswell, founder of WiseInside, a company dedicated to helping people step into their greatness and shine bright. She is a speaker, and author of the award-winning How to Raise a Happy Child (and be happy too) and she has a second book, Wise Talk from the Other Side, which will be heart of our chat today.

Heather Criswell is the host of WiseTalk Radio, a podcast sharing a revolutionary approach to heart-centered communication. She’s worked with over 30,000 children and their families, helping them see their power, own their greatness, and communicate from love.

Heather is all about helping us learn and trust a natural wisdom we all have inside but most of us are unaware of.

This is a most fascinating discussion. We talk about…

  • Discovering the wisdom you already have inside.
  • Letting your light shine so that you enlighten others and change the world.
  • The difference between a Grand Purpose vs. everyday purpose(s) in life.
  • How to find ways that negative situations (like bullying) can serve you—a very odd consideration.
  • How you can realize your personal value when you might be feeling worthless.

You can reach Heather at www.wiseinside.com
