My guest today is Ryley Westman, the Coordinator of Instruction for the entire San Diego Padres Organization, from Rookie Ball to the Big Leagues. Ryley is entering his 9th year coaching in professional baseball. In his current role a majority of his focus is put into developing young talent at the minor league level to help impact the San Diego Padres at the Major League level.
You will find no more continual growth and change than in the lives of professional athletes. Improving skills is obvious and never-ending. But the real difference-maker in the great player verses the Elite Player is we call “Make Up,” or how the player is able to growing mentally, emotionally, and relationally.
Ryley Westman’s job is to help young and maturing athletes attain the fullness of their talent and their mental aptitude. Any sport is as much mental as it is physical, if not more. Riley teaches both.

Statistical Correction: I stated that of the 5000 players in the MLB Minor Leagues only 25 players will be called up to a Big League Roster. The more accurate fact is that it is 25 players per organization, therefore there are 5000 players competing for 750 roster spots. Of those 750 spots more than half are secured by veterans, leaving less that 200 spots available for the 5000 players in the Minor Leagues. It is avery tough journey.
